Crown Student Living gains consent for Number One Portsmouth scheme

Acting on behalf of Crown Student Living, Alder King Planning Consultants have secured full planning consent for the redevelopment of the former post office site at 8 Surrey Street in Portsmouth city centre as student accommodation. 

The 576 bed scheme, known as Number One Portsmouth, will provide a mixture of high quality bespoke studios and twodios with 350 sq m of associated communal facilities.

The site is located approximately 500m from the main University campus and directly opposite Portsmouth & Southsea train station. 

At 23 stories in height, this flagship development will be a new landmark in Portsmouth city centre, says Matt Halstead, partner at Alder King.

“We’re delighted with the outcome of the Planning Committee which voted unanimously to approve this development.  This new scheme offers an exciting opportunity to create a new focal point in the heart of the city and provide high quality accommodation for local students.”

Crown Student Living will appoint contractors to start work later this year, with completion expected in time for the start of the 2018/19 academic year.
