Alder King partner appointed chair of RICS Cornwall Local Member Group

Ian Simpson, partner at Alder King in Truro, has been appointed Chair of the RICS Cornwall Local Member Group.

As Cornwall Chair, Ian will head the Local Member Group committee and provide leadership and guidance on a range of objectives to set and improve local industry standards. Activities will include influencing Government policy and encouraging more young and diverse talent in to the industry by raising awareness of the various careers available in the land, property and construction sectors.

Ian assumes the role of Cornwall Chair at a significant point in RICS history. This year the RICS is celebrating its 150th anniversary, with the Local Member Chair having a vital role to play. He will be responsible for encouraging firms in Cornwall’s land, property and construction sectors to get behind a campaign – known as Pledge150 – which will see RICS partnering with LandAid to raise £2.25 million for the provision of 150 bed spaces across all 12 UK regions by December 2018, for young people at risk of homelessness.

The Cornwall Local Member Group is made up of chartered surveyors working across a spectrum of surveying disciplines.  As a RICS Valuation Surveyor, Ian manages the Truro office of Alder King. He has a wealth of experience to bring to the role, having worked across numerous sectors specialising in valuation of commercial and development property, lease advisory and property consultancy work for a wide mix of private and public sector clients.

RICS Regional Director, Lynn Robinson commented: “Ian’s expertise and experience will be extremely beneficial to the local surveying community in his new role chairing the committee. Ian places inspiring the next generation at the heart of all he does. His dedication to driving the profession forward and ensuring our professionals’ standards and ethics are held to high esteem will help bolster the vast and diverse work across Cornwall.”

On his appointment, Ian Simpson, said: “I am thrilled to be appointed as Local Member Chair of Cornwall. There is a wealth of opportunities available in Cornwall to those already in the profession and the next generation.

“I look forward to delivering a range of initiatives which will have a positive impact on our local industry and our wider local communities in Cornwall.  The region’s land, property and construction sectors continue to face many challenges but as Chair of RICS Local Member Group committee in Cornwall, I will work hard to represent the interests of all our professionals.”
