“Our collaborative culture and deep knowledge mean we can react speedily to market trends and adapt to provide the best service to our clients.”

“I joined Alder King in 1999 as a graduate surveyor at our Gloucester office, becoming an associate in 2005 and a full partner in 2013. I head up our Professional Services offer within our Gloucester and Swindon offices as part of a team of five.

Over the last eight years I have developed a speciality in development viability and now lead a team providing viability advice to developers, land owners and local authorities across the UK. Alder King has provided the opportunity to develop my career and respond to the changing market.

The company encourages open communication at all levels, from top to bottom. If you have an idea, you’re given room to develop it. It’s a team culture – we’re there to support each other and want people who join us to learn, thrive and move forward. This sort of encouragement has been one of the reasons my time at Alder King has been so rewarding. You’re in control of what you want to do and how your career progresses – you’re certainly not constrained by corporate pressure to stay in one place or one job.

The beauty of the business is the stable way it’s been run, with a good blend of tradition, continuity and forward thinking. And because it’s continued to broaden and grow, nobody is hemmed in by limited opportunities.

The beauty of the business is the stable way it’s been run, with a good blend of tradition, continuity and forward thinking. And because it’s continued to broaden and grow, nobody is hemmed in by limited opportunities.

A collaborative culture, combined with our deep knowledge of local markets and the local planning environment, means we can react speedily to market trends and move into new and valuable fields – it’s the sort of agility that some large firms can find difficult.

One of our great strengths is our network of offices. We pride ourselves on knowing our local markets inside out. The beauty of having ‘boots on the ground’ is that we get internal market knowledge quicker, which we can utilise to our clients’ benefit.

There’s a lot of collaboration between offices and disciplines, with regular working groups and a steady cross-flow of projects, allowing us to share our knowledge and experiences with each other. We’re a dynamic organisation – and that’s why people join us and stay with us.”
