The Instruction
Alder King was appointed by Fusion Students to provide principal designer consultancy services on a new £49 million student housing development in Sheffield, working closely with the existing design team led by architects Corstorphine & Wright.
The development involves the demolition of existing properties on site and the design and installation of a new 860 student bedroom scheme in the heart of Sheffield, located on the junctions of Moore Street, Fitzwilliam Street and Thomas Street. The four block development, Fusion’s largest scheme to date, ranges from six to 17 storeys tall and includes a complete suite of social spaces, coffee shops and other facilities.
Our Approach
As a chartered building surveyor and principal designer on the scheme, Alder King partner James Jacobs MRICS was an integral part of the pre-construction team. He ensured that the design team considered all aspects of health and safety for both the construction team delivering this challenging project as well as the end users, whilst adhering closely to the principals of prevention for risk management (Eliminate, Reduce, Inform and Control).
Results
The project is on track for completion in 2020. James continues to liaise closely with all consultants on the team in safely delivering this signature student housing scheme in the heart of Sheffield city centre.
