Alder King Planning Consultants were instructed to submit and manage a full planning application for the redevelopment of the triangle site at Herbert Street in Cardiff to provide student accommodation and communal spaces with flexible commercial spaces on the ground floor.
Zenith is an L-shaped block incorporating an eight storey block fronting Herbert Street, which terminates with a 25 storey block at the northern end of the site. The development comprises of 675 student rooms made up of studios and share apartments.
The key issues related to the principle of providing student accommodation on the site, the design of the tall building and the amenity of future residents and existing neighbours.
Planning permission was granted by Cardiff City Council in December 2016.
Following the grant of permission, a temporary planning consent was secured to use any vacant rooms (up to a maximum of 40) as professional serviced apartments (Use Class C1).
Zenith began welcoming residents in summer 2019.
