Cornwall’s The Natural Store relocates its Falmouth store

The Natural Store, one of Cornwall’s oldest independent health food stores, is relocating its Falmouth operation to larger premises on Market Strand, closer to the town’s prime pedestrianised retail pitch.

The business, which also has stores in Helston and St Austell, has agreed terms with property consultants Alder King on 5 Market Strand in Falmouth, a 2,744 sq ft mid-terraced property previously occupied by the British Heart Foundation.  It has taken the property on a new 10 year lease off a quoting rent of £32,000 per annum.

The Natural Store has been based in a tertiary retail position on Falmouth’s Old High Street since 1996, taking over the business which began as The Granary in the late 1970’s.  In 2006 it expanded by taking the adjacent property to increase its range of wholefoods, bodycare and supplements.

The move to Market Strand offers the business a much more prominent position within the town, with higher visibility and footfall and the opportunity to open a new café on the upper floors, subject to planning.

The property is located directly opposite The Prince of Wales Pier, home to various ferry companies, and offers attractive views from the upper floors.

Tom Duncan, head of agency at Alder King’s Truro office, said: “This attractive period property in the heart of Falmouth will make an excellent base for this popular business which has aspirations to expand its offer and open a new café within the premises.”

Alder King represented the landlord Marley; The Natural Store was unrepresented.
