Huntspill Energy Park receives planning consent

Following the submission of a hybrid planning application in April 2013 by Alder King Planning Consultants on behalf of BAE Systems, Sedgemoor District Council has resolved to grant planning permission for the Huntspill Energy Park, on the site of the former Royal Ordnance Factory near Bridgwater.  The decision was made at a special planning committee held on Tuesday 12 November during which committee members voted with a strong majority in favour of the proposals.

The approved scheme seeks to transform this 649-acre brownfield site to provide modern, purpose designed facilities and create the essential infrastructure needed to fulfil the Council’s ambition to make Bridgwater the focus of a regional low carbon hub. As well as being a major economic boost for the area bringing significant investment and supporting up to 5,500 jobs, the Huntspill Energy Park will also provide community benefits including improved local roads, cycle routes, footpaths and community facilities.

Matt Halstead of Alder King Planning Consultants says: “We have played a key role throughout the project, from the site’s initial promotion as an energy park, assisting with the design evolution of the scheme, co-ordinating an Environmental Impact Assessment and finally being responsible for the submission of the planning application and negotiating a recommendation of approval.  We are delighted to have secured this positive outcome.”
