Prime Taunton site sold for residential development
Property consultants Alder King have finalised the freehold sale of a 5.33 acre development site with planning consent for 58 residential units on South Road, Taunton. The site, which lies within one of Taunton’s most desirable residential areas, was formerly part of King’s College, Taunton and was sold to Arc Homes.
Arc Homes has appointed Kier Living as contractors and work is now underway to construct 58 new homes around a landscaped square. The scheme includes a mix of four bedroom town houses, five bedroom detached houses and a handful of bungalows.
The College was granted residential planning consent on the former sports field site in September 2013 after it invested in new sporting facilities on its main Campus. The consent was granted subject to a Community Use Agreement, allowing local residents to make use of the College’s sports amenities outside school term times.
Grant Watson, partner at Alder King, said: “We’re delighted to have secured the sale of the site which has enabled the College to enhance its overall sporting facilities for the benefit of pupils and the local community.
“Demand for well-located residential sites remains strong and we had extensive interest in this one, resulting in a competitive bidding situation and a strong sale price. This will be one of Taunton’s most exciting residential developments for many years.”
