Ralph Collison wins Special Contribution Award at Michelmores’ Property Awards
Ralph Collison, consultant at Alder King in Exeter, has been awarded The John Laurence Special Contribution Award at Michelmores’ 15th annual Property Awards.
The award spotlights outstanding property and construction professionals in the region and was awarded to Ralph in recognition of his significant contribution to the property landscape of the South West.
Ralph is a well-known figure in Devon’s business community, having established and built up Alder King’s Exeter office over the past 30 years. He has been involved in many high profile developments, including advising Land Securities on the development of Princesshay in Exeter city centre and buying the Science Park site in Exeter for Eagle One.
The judges commented: “It’s very appropriate that Ralph should win this award. He set up Alder King in Exeter 30 years ago from scratch and built it up into a very significant and important business in the property market. Ironically he set up Alder King in Exeter in competition with John Laurence of Chesterton but I know John had great respect for Ralph and he became the go-to person in Exeter to find out what was happening in the local property market. He was always putting deals together and a lot of what’s happened in Exeter had Ralph’s involvement.”
Ralph added: “I’m really delighted to have won this award. Although John was my main competition when I opened Alder King’s Exeter office in 1988, he quickly became a good friend and it’s therefore a real honour to receive this award in his name.”
Michelmores Property Awards showcase and celebrate outstanding property and construction projects in Devon, Somerset, Bristol, Dorset and Cornwall across 10 categories. The winners were announced at an Awards Dinner on Thursday 15 June at the University of Exeter, hosted by comedian and actor Marcus Brigstocke.
