Swindon furniture frame maker invests in new workshop
A Swindon-based furniture frame maker has invested in new workshop premises on the town’s Westmead trading estate after agreeing terms through Alder King.
Established five years ago by owners Jon Carty and Jon Woolhouse (pictured), Frameco has been supplying handmade furniture frames to the upholstery trade for over 15 years. It has now acquired the long leasehold interest of Unit 5, The Cobham Centre from a private landlord. The six-strong company has since relocated into the unit from rented premises on Cheney Manor Industrial Estate.
James Gregory, partner at Alder King, said: “Frameco’s story is typical of the Swindon industrial market at the moment. There’s a strong appetite from smaller occupiers to relocate to larger and better accommodation. The challenge is finding suitable accommodation, with many sub-10,000 sq ft units being taken up as soon as they come on the market.”
Alder King acted for the private landlord and previous occupier of the unit GreenSquare Energy.
Frameco produces frames for upholstery companies in London and the South West, using existing or new patterns and high quality woods including beech hardwood and birch plywood. It can also supply specialist hardwoods such as oak, black walnut and sapele for show wood legs.
Unit 5 Cobham Centre provides 3,910 sq ft of accommodation including warehouse, office and mezzanine storage. It is well-located close to the Great Western Way dual carriageway leading to the M4.
