The Instruction
Alder King was instructed to prepare and submit a planning application for a Flexible Gas Generator Plant and associated infrastructure on greenfield land just outside Bilsham in Sussex which falls under the jurisdiction of Arun District Council.
Our Approach
The site lies in open countryside but by its very nature, needs to be located outside the main residential areas. Working collaboratively with the Council, Alder King provided a robust planning case to demonstrate that the proposals would accord with the Council’s climate change agenda and contribute to the social, economic and environmental development and overall regeneration of the District.
The Council and members of the planning committee acknowledged that the Flexible Gas Generator would help in the efforts to provide a constant supply of electricity supporting the country’s transition to a renewable based energy system. Through the project team’s careful site planning, it was acknowledged that the proposed development would integrate and supplement existing development and would assist in provision of electricity to the new approved homes in the area. In this case the 7.2MW plant would power 4,320 homes. It would also help to secure a sufficient and reliable source of electricity to support the local economy.
Results
The application was approved on the basis it would ensure provision of a local electricity supply whilst complying with the Development Plan policies, the National Planning Policy Framework and the National Policy Statements on Energy.
